Punching and Kicking trees

Help me explain to my friend why this is not good and can hurt you in the long run. I am not very good at debating.

tell him ghosts live in banana trees, and not to kick and punch banana trees. or he will be sorely haunted.

So is it actually ok or is not? People have told me its not good, but I have not gotten a scientific answer as to why.

I kick trees for shin conditioning. If I punch them I always end up with wrist problems after a few weeks.

I will admit i am not expert but i thought it was fine providing the tree has some give. I would not go kicking the chinese elm on the corner or the redwood in your backyard.

In Thai Land the trees they kick have a rubbery core in the middle. Its not that solid, kicking a tree that is solid all the way through is stupid.

I found nothing in the search function, and everyone always has mixed views which makes it seem more opinionated then anything because they have nothing to back it up.
