which mma striker do u admire/relate to the most and why

I have two guys who i think represent the standup portion of mma very well and who i really enjoy their style/approach.........

Jens pulver- he has excellent physical tools, he has a great chin, physical toughness, aggression, power and mental/emotional toughness. But what really makes me enjoy his standup is his CORRECT use of boxing, he has the whole game and represents the sport/art very well. He punches in combination, sets up shots, works the body, uses all the punches; AND he goes through all the def checks an uses the techniques w/in the art to def. He dips, ducks, keeps high guard, drops the elbow and COUNTERS to keep guys hones.

Rashad evans- he has great footwork, his movement (in/out..circles..etc), he controls the dist...uses his hands to block/parry shots....uses head and upperbody movement, sets up shots, picks his shots and is always def aware. in the mid/long range when it comes to strikes he is ver eff def. Has quick hands...footspeed..timing..mobility. His style is similar to what i like to do.

mezger- chambers his punches a bit and is not as text book w/his boxing as a pulver or in kickboxing as cro cop; but he is very balanced in both disciplines. He is pretty sharp..has good timing..spacing..setup/picks shots...throws combos and mixes punches/kicks/knees well. Uses most of the punches and all of the kicks.. is pretty avg as far as ability, but has alot of saviness and tech to help him push or beat more gifted fighters (liddel/silva/sak)

what about u guys

I like Franklin, his stand up is so slick and smooth. 2-3 punch combos over and over again till his opponent drops.

Ramon Dekkers...

Even though he only had 1 mma fight, you can still count him.

Rob MCCullough... He's the wave of the future. A world class kickboxer with outstanding combinations... He's textbook what a striker should look like.

Agree 100% on your description of Pulver...add to this his renowned work ethic. He is who I try to emulate while training.

pedro rizzo- despite his recent troubles, earlier in his career he was a technically sound and powerful striker. he always set up his punches with leg kicks and also used the leg kick as a weapon which is something I like to do often.

shogun- although he can get wild and sloppy sometimes, he is one of my favorites because of his quick, high flying, unorthodox style.

rampage- very aggresive and constantly moving forward, rampage is always fun to watch. although it seems that chute boxe has his number, rampage has been involved in some very exciting stand up battles including with chuck liddell and kevin randleman.

brandon vera- probably the striker I can relate to the most because his use of pure muay thai. I love his use of the plum clinch and his high kicks, I can't wait to see more from him

Wandy. He must not have pain receptors in his eyes.

Andrei Arlovski- He has good footwork, and throws cleaner/more efficient punches than probably anybody else at HW. he doesn't throw wide, uncontrolled punches too often, he throws those short, accurate punches, and he drops a lot of people with them. Possibly the best hands at HW in the entire world, Crocop is his only competition (and I think AA has him in pure boxing, but that LHK is BRUTAL).

Rich Franklin- Uses the jab, and throws a lot of good combos. One of the more technical strikers in MMA, and thats why I like him

Stephan Bonnar- Doesn't have good KO power, but he's a good boxer. I like how he uses the jab, and he shows pretty technical striking.

I'm a boxer, so thats why i have these technical strikers on my list. I'm sure the guys that do kickboxing/muay thai prefer watching guys like Silva or Crocop though.
