Tae Kwon Do bollocks (McDojangs?)

I want an opinion of everyone on the martial art of TKD, what percentage of TKD Dojangs teach a serious regimen? -OR- What percentage of them are really McDojangs?

It seems like the overwhelming majority of them teach kids' classes and what's offered to adults is close to total bollocks.

If youre looking to be in a serious and competitive environment then try to avoid classes where there are alot of kids and older adults. If you simply want to excercise 1 or 2 times a week then it doesnt matter whether the place is a mcdojang or not, you are the one who should be pushing yourself and its up to you whether you get your moneys worth

what are the bullocks being taught by adults btw?

I have a better queston: how is it that someone can logically or realistically presume to make any sort of an accurate guess as to what percentage of all the eighty bazillion or so TKD dojangs around the world teach "bollocks"?

But since this is Sherdog, let me sum up 99.9% of the forthcoming answers and perhaps save everyone else some time and effort: "TKD totally sucks, it's worthless, the kicks are all nothing but love taps, it was invented years ago by Korean guys who wanted to look good and seemed to enjoy getting the shit beat out of them in real fights, most TKD dojangs will give a black belt to a fetus in the second trimester if mom pays the test fees, and since nobody in MMA has won a title using pure TKD against everyone else cross-trained in at least three styles we all know it totally sucks...did I forget to mention that it totally sucks? And is worthless?"

Please define mcdojang/mcdojo. If a school is concentrated on mass sport more than on competitive sport it doesn't qualify it to a mcdojang. A mcdojang in my imagination is a place with a black-belt-in-18-months-guarantee, where you pay a shitload of cash and don't recieve the required attention, where you do not improve but just go up higher in rank. If you mean the latter, then their number is very little to not existant in europe and most other parts of the world and there are much more of these in north america than else where but they still are short handed in comparison to the not-mcdojang.

The real stuff can be found in Korea. It's very tough over there.

Over here, I can't recommend any that I know of (or anyone that I know, knows of)

Try to find an actual Korean guy that is teaching or a guy that has been taught by a Korean guy. Pretty much all other TKD places are mc dojos. make sure the place isn't slack either. watch a class make sure knees are bent and see push ups for mistakes. If it's not like that it's not worth the time IMO.

what you just summed up is what I meant by bollocks, child black belts, flat rate belt fees...

how do you find one that is legitimate is what I meant.

I wouldnt be quick to call it ineffective, no one could win a tournament or belt with pure TKD the same way nobody could win knowing just boxing, just karate, or just muay thai!
