IS this kind of headgear a bad idea?
Is it a bad idea to wear headgear that covers your face? Im thinking it might not give you enough incentive to protect your face and make you form bad habits as a result. But its good at keeping your face nice looking for work, lol. Anyone have experience with this? The reason I make a new thread is because in other discussions people say its good for you protecting your face. Thats good to know, but does it hurt your technique? I cant find a commentary on that.

Shin Gear, Headgear, Forearm pads and Body Protectors often get "abused".
I practice a lot of Stick Fighting.
I use Safety Gear (cause I'm not insane).
Cage/Headgear, LaCrosse Gloves etc...
BUT
You just have to be honest with yourself when sparring.
If I eat a strike to the Head or Hands and then just blow through with a Counter Strike like it didn't happen...then all I am learning how to do is FIghting WITH ARMOR on. Different Game.
Same goes for pads with Kickboxing.
People will take a Kick on the Shin or Forearm that they wouldn't have been able to take had they not been wearing pads.
They develop a false sense of security and develop unrealistic strategies.
My solution...
Is to let them feel what an unprotected strike feels like (A LIGHT ONE) before and after sparring with Gear on.

We do light sparring without gear sometimes. It is totally different especially shin to shin, ouch. Thats why I had concerns about this headguard. I already decided in between the time I started this thread and now that Im gonna get the other one

The face-saver headgear is coming to be one of the highest regarded among Boxing Gyms. For the reason that it duly prevents cuts, and can also shield from damage like a broken nose.
As far as incentive, don't know about incentive, getting hit still hurts, and if anything a guy will wail on you harder if he thinks you're wearing a crash helmet (which does little to prevent brain injury). Pacquaio uses this headgear, and he's learned to move his head more, not less.

Ok thanks for your input. I wasnt aware such high level boxers use it. Did Pacquaio himself say that the headgear helped him wtih head movement?

The headgear doesn't help with head-movement, moving your head does. What I'm saying is that despite his use of the headgear, his head-movement has IMproved. Meaning the headgear doesn't hinder it.

I find headgear annoying for head movement when I spar, feels awkward, hard to tuck in the chin, probably hinders my head movement.
But headgear is a necessity for longevity. You can't just take hits to the head week to week for however many years. Protect your face and your brain because you only get one.

Headgear does very little to protect the brain, your mouthpiece is doing 80% of the work there.

Wear a double mouthguard like the brainpad to protect your brain.
