Karate practitioners can knock you out.

When i talk about karate i dont talk about lil babysitting soft ass karate. I talk about hard Japanese style karate such ass gojuryu who are tought by tough instructors. Im a black belt in Goju Ryu Karate and this is what i've learned. Speed Kills and thats a fact. The faster the hit the harder it is. Put ure hips into it will also make it harder bcuz it's pure physics. Trust me japanese style karate exercises have made my body hard and the sparring has given me a good chin.. And i know that if there is a aggresive karate mma fighter he'll get KO'S. In fact there is one and his name is Ed Ratcliff from the WEC

Actually its not true that the faster it is, the harder it is. There's lot of guys with very fast hands who cant crack in the slightest.

please don't start a pissing contest. I have been doing Shotokan since 1982 (boxing, kickboxking & judo). I agree with the brutal nature of the training from 1st generation instructors. It is more brutal (training and contact) than a majority of young MMA guys think. However, we don't need this sort of post.

I have seen karate fighters beat kickboxers under some rules. I have also seen them crumble under MT. It is about the most skilled who makes contact first. Styles should not matter. That is why it is mixed martial arts.

Kool Chachikiller, I started Shotokan in '79 under a guy who trained in Japan and yes it was brutal. I doubt you'll find many karate clubs who train like that anymore. I also boxed and trained in other styles. Sooo... when I took my first bjj class I thought I was kind of bad assed, and then I became enlightened. Try someone else's cup of tea Underdog.

I agree. We could not keep students in the 1990s. We had to look in the mirror and decide if we should sell-out and become a McKarate school. We said no. It ultimately became a group of guys that train together occasionally.

I messed with BJJ as well. First class, they must have noticed that I trained in some MA. They were training for a tournament and were going at it pretty hard. I didn't mention that I had no idea what I was doing (figured they knew it was my first night). Some guy choked the hell out of me. I think he liked rolling and beating up with a HWY.

LOL. Nothing you can do will improve your chin, the only thing that can be improved is your ability to remain composed after being struck.

thank you for saying this, most people don't understand you can't improve your chin; you can do things to limit the effects of someone striking you, i.e. blocking, rolling w/shots, etc. But u CANNOT make your chin better; most people don't have horrible chins, its just they are not used to getting hit so fear and shock result in people get rocked/staggered/dropped
/etc.

once you get hit HARD, CLEAN; then you learn how to react, and your body might recover quickly because its prepared for the trauma; but if u can't take a punch..u can't, that is just a fact.

We had a Karate guy in our Krav Maga fight class punch another guy with a straight punch in the bread basket (the square as we call it), that nice little square area in the lower mid abominal region of your belly button.

Man, that Karate guy laid that fool out then went on to tell us that it's the best kept secret in Traditional Karate. BIg, tall, small, fast, strong, weak.

In this Karate Guys opinion, he said a solid straight punch to the bread basket is worse than getting nailed in the groin.

And at least on this night? He was right. Never seen someone drop that solid from a body shot.
