Is Japanese kickboxing as good as Muay Thai

I found this on wikipedia

Japanese style kickboxing
This is almost same as Muay Thai but there are differences between them.

Similarities
time: three minutes × five rounds
allowed to attack with elbow
allowed to attack with knee
allowed to kick the lower half of the body except crotch
allowed to do neck-wrestling (folding opponent's head with arms and elbows to attach to mid-body with knees)
head butts and throws were banned in 1966 for boxer safety
Differences
No ram muay before match
No Thai music at the match
Interval takes one minute only
Point system:
In muay thai, kicking to mid-body and head are judged highly. Moreover, kicking is still judged highly even if kicking was blocked. And punching is judged low. But they aren't in kickboxing

Very interesting. I was also wondering the style / technique differences between boxing in the U.S. and boxing in Japan.

Hmm I didnt know that. I guess the outcome of Kalakoda vs Sato wouldve been different in Thailand.

wikipedia is amazing lol. does japanese kickboxing have the emphasis on the EIGHT (8) limbs like muay thai? foot, forearm, shin, elbow, knee, fist, etc..?

I'll bet that the Japanese just copied the MT system.

sticking with MT. it has proven itself as the most effective standup fighting skill over and over, but haven't heard much from japanese kickboxing....

MT is a ring-sport. In my opinion, it is definately not the most effective standup fighting on the streets - especially with multiple opponents coming your way.

Japanese Kickboxing is basically what you see in K-1. Kickboxing is a ring sport just like MT, Boxing, US Kickboxing etc. There is no MA that can fully prepare you for the streets. There are way too many things that can occur on a street [weapons, multiple attackers, etc] that no one MA can prepare you for.
