yes relax, and to help this find a song you like with a good beat and try starting the kick when a certian beat is played. it helps let all your body know when its firing.

i could help a little more if i knew what kick you are trying to generate but what i would recommend doing is placing your base leg and hips closer to where the kick ends

so for an example with an instep kick i would point my front foot past my target and then throw my hips and then my leg.

also remember to get muscle memory you need numbers

fast kicks arnt really that they are going 90+ mph its how fast they go from a dead stand still to full speed.

hope this helped, ps dont try ankle weights on a kick you will do great damage to yourself

repitition, kick a lot, not in the air unless you don't like your knees, you will build up, provided you are kicking with proper form then you will just get faster and faster by kicking a lot, good luck

use some light ankle weights and then practice getting that off fast and hard for a long time, and the repitition, and the weights should build the fast twitch muscle more.

I personally don't suggest kicking with ankle weights, as the possibility for injury is enormous. From muscle pulls and tears, to damaged ligaments and joints.

Weight training + kicking repetition is a much better combination, IMHO.

I have heard that sprinting helps activate your Type 2 muscle fibers and can increase kicking speed.

Relax.... I wouldn't use weights. Exercises for flexibility and balance help kicking, as do core strength moves. i used to pick up a leg and try to fire kicks from the hip at a bag w/o putting my foot down between. Very good for hip and trunk muscles.

Then plyometric exercises, which are basically anything involving fast explosive motions. Short hard sprints on hills, stair running (hop up on one leg, then the other, then alternate 5 each foot, then take two at a time, then hit every step as fast as you can, then see how many you can take with each two-footed jump, etc..) focus on fast and explosive.

weightlifting is good, too, but train the speed in after you build the muscle or you get slow, strong muscle.

I never did much kickboxing but coach said that for anything, punching or kicking, throw it relaxed and tense it up at the last second. Saves energy and makes it much more quicker (and more powerful)

This guy is awesome !

**Update** Bombed out in 2004 Olympics, missing all three attempts on a 157.5 snatch in 77 kilo division. Bad luck !
