How common Is Kyokushin?
How common and widespread Is Kyokushin here in the states? Is it easy to find a dojo? Medium? Hard?

Why don't you try looking - tell us what state you're in and then maybe we can help. Kyokushin is incredible..I had and have a passion to take it but unfortunately the dojo near me is a mcdojo -_-

Kyle's on another board I frequent and mentioned the name of the other sensei...seems that he isn't all that well regarded in our little corner of KK heaven...

Kyokushin is popular enough, but because it isn't for everybody, it might take some looking for.
also, due to unnecessary political idiocy, there are now about 6 KK federations, just about all of which use some form of IKO as their name...also look for Oyama karate (it's KK as well)...
Other flavours of KK include Seido karate, Ashihara Karate, Seido-kaikan, Shidokan to name a few...
it's out there...pm with your locale, I might be able to help

It fucking sucks when a great sport is getting destroyed by ppl who want's to get power instead of promoting the sport and make one GOOD organisation were the best can compete eachother.
Kyokushinkai or Kyokushin whatever is a good sport but there's also Mcdojo's around, so better ask or look at the internet and search your Sensei is a certified teacher.
I don't know for sure but I think a lot of TMA's except Judo, Muaythai is under pression bc of MMA...

There should be many Kyokushin dojos in America. Yes there are many Kyoushin, but even in Japan there are really inly two main ones now, Shinkyokushin with Midori Kenji and Matsuda Akira and Kyokushinkaikan with Matsui Shokei, which is the most "popular" one. This is the one that sends guys to K-1 and Filho is still with them.
I do agree with the other poster who said they should have just one organization. I think the quality has suffered on a competative level. I do not watch it much anymore. Filho would have dominated the fighters now. If that guy Tanaka was Japan's best fighter then something is severly wrong. Even Kiyama who won the last world tournament, he is good and decent but hardly on a Filho or Midori Kenji or Yamaki level. Kyokushin used to be watched by many Japanese, not anymore. Very sad.

Every major KK federation has a presence in Japan, and I know that because I trained there with the Regokai (All Japan Kyokushin Union)...Matsui just makes the most noise

Filho and Glaube are as great as they are due in part to Shihan Isobe...one of the best of the best in KK...

No problem. I did not mean to say they are not all represented in Japan. Just those two seem to be the most visible in Japan, since I live here.
Yes Shihan Isobe was a big part of their success. Such talent does not come often though. Texeira(spell? I only know the Japanese spelling) is strong but not as polished/talented as those two were. I can remember such great fighters, Hug, Matsui, Thompson, Kasumi, Yamaki, Matsuda, Midori, Pettas, Glaube, Filho the past 20 years.
