Icon1 Gym Bag 101:

The old gym bag thread re-visited:

Gym Bag 101:

This is for all you cats who are either, or are dying to be gym-rats. The first thing you should do before carrying your sorry ass into a gym to get into fighting shape of any kind is put together a decent gym bag. This is a project, and speaks volumes about your level of dedication and consideration for how seriously you take your Sport. So that being said, here's the deal:

First, buy the biggest bag you can carry comfortably. Your bag, you should be able to live out of it for a short time if you have to. And the number one rule to having a gym bag that says you give a shit is that you keep it near you at all times. In your car, backseat or trunk, you take it in the house when you get home for the night, and take it out with you even if you're not going to the gym because, who knows? If you're an un-armed combattant, your bag is the equivalent of a Samurai's Sword in my opinion. And to me, here's a basic rundown of what a bag should have let's say, for a Boxer like myself:

- 2 pairs of trunks.
- 2 sets of bag gloves
- 2 sets of 12-16 oz boxing gloves
- 1 set of whatever oz gloves you fight with
- 1 pair of shoes (but you should have 2)
- 2 mouthpieces (you can get a neat little carrying case for them, I have one)
- 2 sets of headgear (incase you want to spar someone who only brought their gloves)
- at least 2 rolls of tape
- 1 bag de-oderizer (they work wonders for keeping your shit from being stinky)
- 1 set of small focus mitts

Plus I also like to keep certain food items in my bag just because, prevents me from wanting to eat fast-food. So here's some easy items to keep that will go a long way for a good hard day at the gym:

- Small pack of trail mix (fruit and nuts)
- 2 granola bars (carbs)
- small pack of jerky (making your own is the best way to go IMO)
or
- 2 protein bars
- at least 1 water bottle, some guys carry a gallon all the time, I prefer two smaller bottles.

Now because I tend to be obsessive about my training habits I also keep a couple small pieces of equipment on me at almost all times, so here's some miscellaneous crap:

- set of hand-grips
- set of Baoding balls

That's all I can think of for now. But if anyone has anything to add feel free. I' intrigued about some of the shit guys carry with them all the time just from sheer superstition. lo

very good list

what has helped me a lot

a towel

bottle of frozen water. i like the 30 oz big bottles. by the end of my workout or towards the end the some of the water is melted and you can pour water from a drinking fountian into the bottle so your water is chilled.

warm water sucks after a workout imo

My friend's mom (who is a nutritionalist) says that cold water is terrible for your body. The best temperature is room temperature.

It's not bad at all if you're cutting.

The calories needed to heat the water = more calories burned.

get a plastic laundry bag and put that in there too. Used gym cloths and uniforms (like gis) go into the laundry bag so they don't stink up the rest of it too much.
