Front leg round house kick

Is the technique for these the same as a back leg kick. As mine seem far less efective

well yes and no.. The pure tecnique is basicly the same. But since its from your lead leg, you will loose some power. Unless you do it like a switch-kick.

your kick feels less efective because you use your "weak" foot. But practice makes perfect. Its a very usefull kick. Thai-boxers uses this kick very effectivly

(sorry my bad english)

Its same in the sense that your pivoting off your planted foot to allow full hip rotation, and that your connecting on the shin, leg slightly bent with your knee going past your target, but the initial footwork is completely different.

Send a message via MSN to _kickboxer_
to get some power out of the lead leg creat space, switch the lead leg back and drive off with the hip. Then it's a normal round house, if you miss you can return it to lead position again instead of spinning, or returning it to back again. They are ussually slower but more powerfull if done correctly.

As already mentioned, front leg roundhouse needs a switch to really get some power. If you dont switch you can still use it, but I use it like you would use a jab. I.e. distract, set up things, etc. If you havent already, watch Buakaw, as he is a master of the front leg roundhouse kick. There are several nice techniques for practicing the switch, if you google it you should find some. Jumping and switching on a tire is also good.

Yup. Thats who I studied to develop mine. I have an instructional where he breaks it down slowly. Its not just a switch, its more of a switch and step at the same time. Also, his legs are the only thing that switches while his upperbody stays the same. Its all in the hips. A big part of it is being able to swing your arms properly to maintain balance.

It's the same basic idea with the lead foot as the rear foot, it's comparable to a jab since it's with the lead leg and thats why it may be weaker. Depending upon the situataion you may want to twist your hips fully into the lead leg kick for more power however this may leave you in a slightly akward position to use your hands when you do it completely so I usually do it to some point but not fully. Play with it and see what works best for you....
