Fedor: "I noticed something with his 'leg play' that allowed me to strike him"
I assume that leg play is a literal Russian translation for footwork.
Does anyone know what he meant by that? Do strikers look for flaws in others footwork and punching style during fights. Is that what Fedor meant? Can someone elaborate.
I posted here because this board would be knowledgeable on the subject than Contenders.

I posted here on Sherdog yesterday before the fight, that while Fedor by sub is most likely, I would not be surprised if Fedor switched him off with a couple of big punches. Because Rogers moves forward with his face out and hands down.
Look at the knockdown, and that is exactly what you see Rogers doing. What Fedor jumped on was how he flat foots it on the way in, and once in range, plants wide to throw. I saw his trainers discuss it in the 360 special on Showtime while watching Rogers fight clips, so he knew it going in.

Yeah, the longer you have to spar against someone, the more chance the dominant fighter has to exploit the weaknesses of the other fighter.
In this case, fedor knew what to look for.

Half of being a good striker is being able to identify the flaws in your opponent's technique (footwork, head movement, etc.). The second half is being able to exploit it!

To add to my previous post. If you watch the gif's of that fight, you'll notice what Fedor was probably looking for.
Rogers takes a step into striking range, then takes a half step with the same leg before launching his attack. Fedor was looking for the beginning of that second step and struck as soon as he saw it, thus pre-empting Rogers' strike.

a lot of guys dont look at feet. i dont mean straight down, but chest level is more than enough to see the feet
you can notice when someone is setting up for power, or planting their feet, on the ball of their foot or whatever. sometimes when a guy does that, you've gotta move, and make them reset
rogers' problem was stepping in, and then throwing a lazy hook or jab, i forget which.

^What he said. They teach you in boxing to look at your opponent's chest to keep your chin down and have the best possible overall view of your opponent. The irony of this is, that Rogers said Fedor keeps his hands down after throwing a punch...
I say it's more instinct and timing, not planning ahead for 1 thing after careful examination of a couple of mins stand up, just like in the Arlovski fight. Same move, same counter.

Rogers was telegraphing his punches. Fedor, being as quick as he is, was able to see this and punch Rogers with that big shot while Rogers' hands were down.

lol fedor noticed all right.
immense power/speed/accuracy/timing.
impressive.
that said he no longer looks anywhere near as unbeatable as he once did. i hate to go off topic but i would love to see a powerful wrestler like cain velasquez against fedor.
seeing how cain's tight, impreccable, made-for-mma wrestling would stand up against fedor's lacksadaisical yet perfectly balanced, lush judo would be something to savour.
also, and im not sure if anyone noticed, but broken nose or not, fedor gassed.
