Drunken Boxing
Hey folks! I'm about to start training in MMA through in Glasgow. I would really like to supplement my training with some drunken boxing. I have never seen drunken boxing in MMA, but i want to be the first to try it.
If anyone has trained in drunken boxing, can offer any help or training advice, then please help me out. In return, i will drunken box my first opponent and post it for you all to see. I realise this looks like a troll thread, but i was told to seek out kabuki, who i'm told frequents this forum.
Any advice/help much appreciated.

drunken boxing was basically random spastic movements by loser chinese fighters in the south chinese districts.
they got beat, got drunk, then beat up the local yolkals that picked on them at the bar.
eventually they realized it hurt less & they were less inhibited to throw hands and take hits w/ a few drinks.
they mixed southern kung fu (mostly animalistic stuff) w/ a few drinks and deceptive movements.
mostly snake and crane style. because at the time, styles weren't as well known, random movements appeared very tricky for the usual fighter to interpret and those deceptions brought the drunken boxer victory.
HOWEVER, in the ring, it will be not as easy to pull off -- i can give you this much tho.
if the enemy can't predict or read your movements because you are erratic AND you have proper control & speed (that they just see thru your BS and throw a KO round kick) .... then they will be very confused.
the more confused and hesitant they are, and the more willign to throw & take hits you are... the better off you'd be in this particular strategy

I used to box (western) with a guy who would pull out little bits of drunken boxing - mostly as a lark - though I did see him do it in amateur bouts now and again. When I say "little bits" - I mainly mean the footwork.
There is a semi-famous journeyman boxer that I've seen vids doing similar things - the name completely escapes me - but I bet I saw it on here (90% sure it was a Kabuki post too).
In terms of efficiency, I don't think it is a terribly wise move... your time could be better spent elsewhere. However, I have done some odd cross-training to improve my footwork and who knows, drunken might be an interesting way to improve balance/movement (I did ballet as a kid, and ballroom more recently - both directly geared towards improving my boxing footwork).

Emanuel Augustus is the boxer's name. I wouldn't base my whole standup game around drunken boxing, but as is the case with all martial arts, there are useful things that you can take from it and supplement your game with (footwork and creating unorthodox angles being the two primary things I can think of).

Yeha thats the first thing I was thinking of was the clip where the DB practitioner gets head kicked by a Kyokushin guy.
If you want to try it I would encourage you to watch many of Genki Sudos fights, for although he isnt a DB stylist, he uses alot of goofy and wacky moves to show-off and act confusing and actually gets away with it. Also check out Shun-di on Virtua Fighter.

drunken boxing is a good way too learn different kinds of feints. then with transitions too takeddowns and throws. in mma a pro figher with footwork and a clinch game it will not work, on the streets it would work a little more. i belive that any art is worth learning, but dont waste your time....unless your into chinese martial arts like me,,,,,,,,,,

So far as I know, Drunken Boxing was a system or at least derivation of one (i've read that Choy Lay Fut was a precursor to it) in Kung Fu which was designed to give the skilled practitioner an edge in a fight by masking the various blocks, strikes, and what-not with exaggerated bobbing and weaving movements which gave the fighter the appearance of heavy intoxication. By doing so, an attacker would be led to believe the practitioner is shit-faced, and thus is unable to fight worth a damn. Allowing himself to be lulled in complacency, the attacker leaves himself open to be caught unaware and dropped.
In times past, travelling from Point A to Point B in China often involved travelling over roads rendered unsafe by plundering highwaymen; the element of surprise was important.
I read of another, similar system years ago that used the appearance of being crippled in lieu of being drunk. This was developed by a monk (monks often being the only force of law in otherwise lawless resons) who decided to address the problem of the phsyically-disabled ni the general area getting preyed upon figuring out a way to fight by looking helpless. He would then basically act like a New york transit cop, carrying on the whole "crippled" ruse and beating up his attackers, hoping to give his fellows doubts about attacking otherwise helpless-;looking trvallers.
I don't know it ever being developed or refined to make is effective against trained, skilled attacker; the little evidence I seen suggests that Drunken Fist has *VERY* limited use, if any at all, as a competitive figting styles.
