Critique my Kicks/Video

Disclaimer, i have not trained in a long time and i wasn't going for technique or anything, just trying to demonstrate the basic kick and was wondering why more people don't use it in MMA. Of course, these kicks are for the streets and usually with boots/shoes on. You can say i am a JKD/WC style. I know probably 90% of the board is MT purists or idiots, but i hope that someone can be civil and give me some advice using logic and reasoning(and not style bias) and not something noobie like, oh you should keep your lead hand up higher(no need, i'm not in range of punch and i like to have it down to bait people since i can flick out a jab from that position too, or sometimes i have it up high but then u have to chamber to throw a punch etc) :p

YouTube - Low Side Shuffle Heel Kick

YouTube - Check, and Side Low Heel Kick Counter

Cheers guys.

I am also really curious if anyone else here uses this same kind of kick, and what 'style' you do or train for the ring or street etc.

I'm going to start off by saying this is an mma board and yes the majority of people on here are more familiar with Muay Thai styles than WC, TKD, Etc. With that said, it's also not a good idea to start off a post about your video by making excuses for the poor technique before we have even had a chance to see it. For these 2 reasons I am not going to critique your kicks because a. I don't know anything about WC and would not know if that is good or bad technique and b. the quality of your video is poor. You have no space to show your technique, you are in your boxers which I would prefer not to see, and you made excuses for sucking before I could even see it. I say go somewhere outside or in a gym, have someone video you practicing your kicks on a bag or pads, and explain to us your style and maybe some key points about your kicks. Then repost the video and ask us to critique it.

Watched the first one, have no interest in watching the second. Checking a kick and then side kicking to the leg is used in MMA, I train with a couple people that like to use them. Not fun to get caught with. One of my training partners accidentally hit my knee with one of those and it was pretty fucked up for a couple months.
EDIT: Also, you said yourself you haven't been training long. I haven't either but I know more than to argue about keeping my hands up. Especially with that kick, if you don't land square or you encounter someone tough enough to walk through it, expect to find yourself on your ass if that hand isn't protecting your face.

to be honest, I use this stuff a lot. I'm short person with thick legs and I'm not as flexible as I used to be (because I stopped doing the proper stretches) so I do a lot of low kicks. The sambo-esk kick you did in the 2nd film is something I try to do all the time... but you've got to be a good practitioner to block and strike in one motion.
I've been training a long time, but its never been my life.... still, these are tools that I've always been taught to use.

If you think you would be able to check a kick and do that shit to their supporting leg while they're are still on one foot your fooling yourself. Maybe in a choreographed fight scene.

Doesn't matter if they're on one foot. Take a side kick in the thigh/above the knee from someone that knows what they're doing and you'll learn to respect it real quick. The check just sets it up so you could come through with your power leg without telegraphing.

Thanks for the responses guys. I just wanted to know what you guys thought and if you ever used that kind of move.

Of course, personally i would never want to take a full power roundhouse from someone big and strong/skilled, i most likely won't be in a position to throw a counter. But that's why you check them before they throw it then with a front push kick or something(to chest but i like knee/thigh since harder to catch and don't need as much reach, then you can follow with your own roundhouse like in my second video). You need speed/accuracy to use it properly, watch some Buakaw video's for more info :p

Also, not all their roundhouses are full power and you're off balance, sometimes they get sloppy and you can predict it, step in and or even bat it(like his upper leg or inside knee bit, not his shin, that's the weakness of circular kicks) with your checking leg/knee, putting you in position to counter.

I apologize for my shorts, i thought people would have liked to see the legs better than if i wore pants.. sorry if you were too focused on my cock or what's in the background. That is the best quality for my camera, but i think you can at least see what i'm talking about..
