Can using a Heavy Bag be counter productive?

This is for conventional boxing only. My friend told me working out on a heavy bag too much can actually hurt your punching technique and power is this true? And if it is what is considered overduing it?

My technique is pretty good I'm ambidextrous and can use either hand. Some times i switch it up and use an overhand grip and it feels like another person is there .

That is indeed weird. I'm also called Jersey Rob in college because there is a guy from Pennsylvania too. If you went to Rutgers it would even be weirder. R U a Rutgers grad?

If you over work and get sloppy than drill it into your brain (when you work something ALOT and you're tired it becomes nature faster) it will be bad.

Ummm.....for boxing the heavy bag is an essential tool. I don't see how it would be detrimental if you already have good technique and movement ingrained into yourself. Hell, if anything working the heavy bag helps you build power.

What he PROBABLY means is that you shouldn't neglect other forms of training: mirror work, shadowboxing, working with pads, speedbag, and sparring.

If you ONLY do the heavy bag, it will probably be counterproductive.
