Icon2 Anderson Silva training:

Like Bang, and a few other guys, Anderson is one of the people defining what it means to be a Striker in MMA.

I'm anxious to see if Rich is going to stand with him. Considering Anderson has a black belt in BJJ if I'm not mistaken, it'll be tough for Rich either way.

True, this should be a great fight, I'd love to see them stand and find out who's better, but then again I'd enjoy watching them fight on the ground. Either way we win as far as I'm concerned.

Precisely. If he does even well against Rich then I'd say the day of the Striker's is finally here.

I posted a long time ago that in MMA, every facet of fighting has had it's day save for Strikers. In the beginning BJJ was INVINCIBLE. Then came the days of the Wrestlers.

With Cro Cop Boxing circles around Wandy, Cyrille putting on an amazing show with his Stand-up against Shogun (the dude is SCARY fast), and if Anderson does well against Rich, it'll be very exciting times for guys who are well-rounded, but like to base themselves as Strikers. We'll finally have consistent successful (even in defeat) models of what to do.

You do realise you forgot to mention Chuck, the guys been a poster boy for learning to avoid a punch for a long while. I've never seen anyone else who can hit that damn hard while moving backwards and circling at speed.

Heh heh, I purposely left out Chuck because Chuck is a given. And he doesn't really kick anymore. I like his style though, pick a moment of weakness, rush in, punch the motherfucker's lights out. Or measure, counter-punch, then rush in and punch the motherfucker's lights out.

But these guys like Anderson and Cyrille who use so many tools is refreshing. That standing-elbow KO is CRAZY. In a way that warms the heart for Strikers.

I have to admit the standing back elbow warmed heart of the thai boxer part of me. I've never realised quite how badly I wanted to see a really great kickboxer or thai boxer in mma unitl these guys turned up. Watching him demolish leben was poetry, a perfect demonstration of the difference between a brawler who can punch hard and a true striking expert who can use range and timing properly.

Well Franklin and Sylvia are also both strikers. Albeit not as flashy or technical, their main game is on their feet.
