American Kickboxing vs Muay Thai Kickboxing

As far as I know, American style does not allow low kicks, elbows or knees, but does it have any significant advantages to the Thai style?

KickBoxing is just Punching and kicking and no low kicks are allowed, Muay thai has all the technique's taht Kickboxing has but with elbow's,clinch techniques, knees and low kick's thrown in.
Generally western kickboxers put more emphasis on their boxing so they generally have better hands than some pure Muay thai Fighters, because in Muay thai punching is one of the lowest scoring forms of attack.
Also the fact that in Kickboxing you can devote your time to perfecting your punching and kicking where-as in Muay Thai you have more area's to work on.

No it's not. It's not Muay Thai at all.

American Kickboxing was created several decades ago by Karate practitioners who wanted to go at it full contact.

So basically Kickboxing is karate kicks + boxing punches. The name is kickboxing, but when compared to karatekas and TKDists, American-style Kickboxers lack in their kicking techniques. But they do have better punches than karatekas and TKDists.

American Kickboxing also has no low kicks, no elbows, and no knees.

Chuck Liddell's kickboxing is not American Kickboxing in its truest form. Why? The Iceman does low kicks, knees, and elbows, none of which are in AM.KB.

They aren't that great at kicking.

I'd say 65/35 in favor of punching.
