College football has a lot of great rivalries. Two of the biggest that come to mind are Florida vs. Georgia and Ohio State vs. Michigan.

The Ohio State vs. Michigan game is tomorrow, and I have a question.....

When examining a rivalry what is more important?

1. Recent history.....what have you done for me lately? Ohio State has beaten Michigan 5 times in a row, and have won 7 of the last 8.

2. Overall leader......Michigan leads the all time series 57-42-6, and has the largest victory of the rivalry of 86-0 back in 1902.

Other things to consider....

Ohio State has been National Champions 7 times, have been Big Ten champs 34 times, 7 heisman trophies, and have 9 undefeated seasons on record. They were also ranked the 3rd most prestigious college football organization by ESPN (behind Oklahoma and USC).

Michigan has the most all time wins and highest winning percentage in division I history. They have been National Champions 11 times, and have been Big Ten champs 42 times.

ESPN voted Ohio State vs. Michigan as the #1 rivalry in college football. The rivalry is so big that HBO produced a documentary about it's history.

This is what football is all about. I'm excited.

Most probably have never heard of her. She is the wife of Buckeye legend and ESPN college football analyst Chris Spielman. She has had 5 cases of breast cancer in the last 12 years and couldn't win this time. She was a very public figure here in Columbus starting the Stephanie Spielman fund for breast cancer research and the foundation has raised a ton of money for research through many fundraisers and charity events over the years. She is survived by her husband Chris and four children.

Rest in peace.

NFL trying to curb drunk tailgaters

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2009-11-18-1a-cover-nfl-fans_N.htm

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. . New York Jets fan Luke Maxson says the NFL's push to crack down on drunken and disruptive fans by limiting tailgating to 3 hours before each game might be the "final nail" that makes him give up his 16 season tickets.

Kevin Grady, 33, hopes tailgating limits will reduce the fan misbehavior he has seen at many NFL stadiums. He points to a tailgater passed out in a trailer more than two hours before the Jets' 1 p.m. kickoff Sunday. "See that guy? Put that in your story," says the teacher from Meriden, Conn.

The conflicting views show the challenge facing the nation's most popular and powerful sports league as it tries to fully implement a crackdown on unruly fans during the second season of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's "Fan Code of Conduct" initiative.

The effort reflects rising concern among league officials that boozed-up, unruly fans are scaring away the family audience at a time when the number and quality of NFL game telecasts are increasing the attractiveness of watching at home for far less money.

--

So do you guys think that drunken tailgate partiers are putting a damper on ticket sales?

Ireland vs. France World Cup Play-off Replay Discussion

**Football fans from around the globe have deluged Sky Sports to call for the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off with France to be replayed. *

*Precedent
It appears there is a precedent for replaying play-offs following Fifa's decision to order Uzbekistan's World Cup qualifier against Bahrain to be held again following a dubious refereeing decision.

With a place in a decisive play-off for the 2006 World Cup finals up for grabs, Uzbekistan won the opening leg of their Asian zone play-off 1-0 but they were infuriated by a bizarre incident where a penalty was disallowed for an attacking player encroaching.

Rather than retaking the penalty, a free-kick was awarded to Bahrain. Uzbekistan called for the game to be given to them 3-0, but were left incensed after the match was ordered to be replayed in its entirety due to the technical error by Japanese referee Toshimitsu Yoshida. *
Yoshida should have allowed the penalty to be retaken rather then disallowing the goal.

Fifa gave their verdict on the decision to replay the Uzbekistan-Bahrain tie on their official website in 2005 but curiously chose not to mention the controversy surrounding the crucial goal in the France v Republic of Ireland game. *

I know this has been talked about in multiple threads but I thought we should have one place to discuss.

Personally I think since there is a precedence in FIFA law for a replay due to poor referring there should be an immediate replay. FIFA can't leave things as they stand. I think it would set a bad example for the football world at large.

Henry? Eh, I could care less. Even though it was a terrible act, footballers do these kind of sneaky plays all the time. Its up to the refs to spot the bullsh*t and call players on it.

What are your thoughts?

Do you guys think there should be a video review in soccer, similar to what they do in the NFL?

Only for plays that involve goals.

If you lose a challenge, you lose one of your three subs.

How about it? Would this work?

KABUL -- Is the world ready for a sport played with a headless goat carcass?

Haji Abdul Rashid thinks it is and has big plans: corporate sponsors, television rights and beyond.

"We want it to become an Olympic sport," says Rashid, who heads the Buzkashi Federation.

To understand how ambitious - even crazy - this is, consider the game. Buzkashi, which means "goat grabbing," is a violent sport with virtually no rules. Players, called chapandaz, gallop at breakneck speed over a dusty field, fighting over a dead animal without a head.

Buzkashi is undergoing a renaissance in Afghanistan since the Taliban regime was ousted from power by U.S. forces in 2001. There are more games, players and spectators than ever before. Rashid says he has already contacted some Olympic officials.
