If you had virtually no training experience and were looking to prepare for a stint in prison, which art would you study?

I'm leaning more towards the "hand-to-hand combat systems", or "reality based systems" (i.e., Krav Maga, Jeet Kune Do, etc) as opposed to the "sport arts" (i.e., Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, etc.). Any suggestions?

I'm a security guard, and I work one of the worst neighborhoods in town. I'm a big fellow, about 250 pounds. I'm an avid weightlifter with a background in kickboxing and judo, though years have passed since I took any formal training. For protection I carry a 4 D-Cell Maglite, and have wrapped the batteries in hockey tape to cut down on awkward internal weight shifting. It's now a heavy solid club.

So far my size and presence in conjunction with the highly visible carrying of my pocket sunshine have kept the wannabe gangbangers peaceful and/or fearful. But I hear the "We gotta beat that rat" murmurs and most of my patrols are outside after dark. I've got a ton of escape routes planned and I've always got eyes in the back of my head. The concealed stab-proof vest requisition is in progress, though my boss is dragging his heels over the implications and if this might hurt his insurance.

My question is regarding the flashlight and its usage in one-shot takedowns during citizen's arrests or just getting the hell out of dodge. I know the obvious strike points such as the head, or the knees or anything that breaks. But what about reasonable force, where use of the light is recommended for minimal personal risk but I don't want the risk of crippling or putting someone in a coma; any suggestions or tactics on that front?

Because seriously. The light is fricking heavy, and I'm a meaty guy besides. I need some possible alternate tactics to look into before my first incident with the light results in Lil' G breathing and eating through tubes and my actions getting flashlights regulated, because some suburban working professional mom won't acknowledge her lack of parenting skills resulted in her baby boy making like he was pulling a knife on "the rat" with five friends backing him.

So, besides "find a new job", any input?

The Ruger 10/22 Customization

For those with a 10/22 (mostly everybody), if you're looking to customize your 10/22, these three might be your best options:
Image: http://www.centerfiresystems.com/productimages/stocks/STKRUG-ARCHANGLE-D1.jpg

The Archangel kit, priced around $169 - $200. The standard model includes: Upper receiver housing with integral Picatinny rail and lower receiver housing with pistol grip (built in storage compartment), Six position Archangel combat stock (built in storage in stock extension tube), Free float handguard with Picatinny rails located at the twelve o'clock (top) and six o'clock (bottom) positions (additional rails may be added) and the Archangel muzzle device with Picatinny rail and Bayonet Lug (Lug accepts Archangel Display bayonet) Deluxe Package also includes: Front and rear Archangel folding sights and display bayonet.

Image: http://www.krinkerplinker.com/pics/db/gallery/large/000017.JPG

The Krinker Plinker kit, priced at $349.99. Krinker-Plinker with Heavy, Match Grade Barrel. The Krinker-Plinker is a complete conversion kit for the Ruger 10/22 to turn it into a miniature AKS-74U Krinkov using original military AK-74 parts and stamped, molded, cast and CNC-machined pieces. Works with all semi-auto and full-auto Ruger 10/22 rifles using the original receiver, bolt and trigger-pack install in the kit without modification.

Image: http://www.mountsplus.com/images09/tapco/TAPCO_RUGER_10-22_T6_Collapsible_Stock_OD.jpg

This is the kit that I purchased for my 10/22, it's the Tapco T6 stock priced at around $90. Six-position adjustable stock adjusts to shooters of any size for a customized fit. The SAW-style pistol grip has a hidden compartment, and concealed under a cover in the forearm is a Picatinny rail on which you can mount forward grips, bipods or a light. The top barrel cover also has a Picatinny rail and accepts any Picatinny/Weaver-style scope rings. Construction is military-grade composite.

Anyone have a 10/22 with the Archangel or Krinker Plinker kit?

Opinions on a handgun.

As I am going to be turning 21 soon Im looking to get myself a pistol.

Im undecided on what kind I want. I like revolvers at heart and really have my eye on either one of these.

Smith and Wesson 686
Image: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/scrody/S_W686_03.jpg
Its a .357 Magnum able to fire .38s as well. Stainless steel but heres the catch you get 7 shots instead of 6. About $600

But theres also this.

The Smith and Wesson Model 25
Image: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/scrody/m25.jpg
The main reason I want one of these is because its a .45 revolver. I want a large handgun because I intend on hunting more big game in my life and I want an efficient pistol at my side. These are more pricey(Around $800) and rightfully so because its a true hand cannon.

But then I find myself thinking about an automatic(I will own all these guns one day either way) so heres my ideas on those.

The Springfield XDM9
Image: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/scrody/spg_XDM9202HCSP.jpg
Its a 9mm handgun and although Ive heard questionable things about 9mm I wouldnt get this pistol in anything larger. Ive shot the XD .45 and I thought that the frame of the gun was a bit too small for the .45 cartridge. I think one of these in 9mm is a good buy because its around $650 after tax. And they have a lifetime warranty.

But then Im drawn back to a bigger automatic. I like the .45 round in a handgun as long as its not a smaller gun which is where I came across this.
Springfield 1911
Image: http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e8/scrody/Springfield1911Milspec.jpg
I like the classic look of the 1911 and Ive always wanted one exactly like this. Also pretty cheap around $600 after tax

What say you sherdoggers? What should Scrody buy as his first pistol?

Heres some babes for your time
