I got SportyPal | Free tracking mobile application for all GPS enabled phones (http://www.sportypal.com) for my Blackberry the other day. Using your phones GPS it can time, track , and log your runs, cycles, walks, etc. Seems to work pretty well. Works with Blackberry, IPhone, and Windows Mobile.

Pros/cons of high-rep cleans?

Today is my 20-rep squat day. I'll be attempting 260 lbs. x 20. I also plan to do high-rep presses and so was wondering if a high-rep power clean is good or bad, beneficial or not?

The last time I power cleaned was Sunday, and I did 5 x 3 @ 225 lbs. with about 30 seconds rest between each set. I was thinking of dropping the weight down to 185 lbs. and trying to do 3 x 10 or a similar set/rep scheme at that weight.

The only con I can think of is once I get into the higher reps my form will most likely slip. But, as long as I focus I think I might be able to limit the slippage.

In class last night we wrestled for the first time ever. I'm not in poor shape, but I've never wrestled in my life. We drilled with a defender on all fours and an attacker with arms wrapped around the defender's chest. We had to make it across the room and touch the wall while the attacker tried to prevent it, then run back to do pushups until the last guy touched the wall, then switch and start over. I was completely ruined in 2 rounds which was probably two or three minutes. I have new respect for Nog and Couture after that. I suppose the only way to improve is to do more. It was fun and challenging.

Mental conditioning for fights.

Physical conditioning is important for fighting, however mental conditioning is also just as if not more important then the physical side. How many times have you had a fighter have a perfect camp but fighter after fight they fold under pressure(im sort of like this, hence the thread). Throughout wrestling in highschool and boxing now if things were going my way, which they usually would since im a fast learner, everything would go ok. But when the going gets tough and shit gets real i find myself making excuses and losing, and I HATE THAT I DO THAT. I dont know why.

What kind of mental exercises/chants/sayings do you do to help strengthen yourself mentally? Lately Ive been doing jump rope and just as I feel my energy levels start to drop I think about every time I get hit, I tell myself "If he hits you with a 1,2 you give him a 1,2,3 right back, 1,2,3 you give him a 1,2,3,4. Hes taking your health away from you, so you take more from him." When Im jogging I think about guys at the gym who seem to just never run out of energy, being able to keep at the same pace forever, so i envision myself like the energizer bunny, just one steady pace goin and goin and goin.....

Polar Heart Rate Monitors?

Does anybody have one or use one? They're like the only brand of heart rate monitors in Australia so i don't know if you guys in the US use other brands. I'm looking to get one that isn't too expensive, i.e. a low-mid range model. I think all i'll want in mine is duration, heart rate, and average heart rate over timed duration. I'm not sure what other features the new ones come with but i think that's all i'll need a monitor for.

Opinions?

Greetings about 4 months ago on my summer vacation i had a skateboarding accident breaking both my tib and fib. I now have a steel rod and 4 screws in my leg. I broke it midway between my knee and ankle. Has anyone experienced this before and does it affect you on the mat? Im worried about people going for my leg during matches or just from rolling. Im under the impression it will be harder to hurt now that i have a steel bar. Anyone ever had something like this occur?

Hey there,

I've been lifting heavy weights with my old man for the past couple of months, and now I'm looking to change up his training program.

I've been considering switching to circuits for the weight training, but I'd like to add some cardio and maybe try out some other gpp stuff.

It needs to be low impact (bad knees and bad shoulders, among other things).

Can anyone give me some recommendations?

My main problem is time being full time work, full time school, and of course full time training. Tomorrow(tuesdays) I do not work till 1. Basically my question is, can I wake up and run a few miles, lets say at 8am then at noon do squats and/or deadlifts? My schedule is blown to basically the last minutes of everyday between these 3. I try to incorporate 3 days of training, 2 running, and 3 day split lifting(trying to hit the 1000 by Xmas @ 160lbs). I have a feeling I'm pushing it with only a 3 hour gap however I do think/know my body can handle it. Thanks guys.

I do a lot of swimming as i am hoping to compete in triathlons in the future, i find it really helps with my MMA, i can go a lot longer, my core strength is coming on leaps and bounds and it also helps loads with my breathing.

Although i am sure this has probably been brought up before, i am interested to know if anyone else finds this useful?

Thanks
