I've never seen a boffer axe before but a weird one i train with sometimes is the hammer. not really trained for as a weapon, just something i came up with to add weight and projection to my strikes. since they are just an extention of hand to hand moves
I'm infamous in my swordfighting circle for ruining the shit out of people's hands. The hands are the most available part of the body to strike and do some significant damage to with just a flick of the wrist.

There are some nifty trapping things you can do with a sword, my favorite of which is what a good sword practitioner would do just about every time you see a movie and the two guys lock up all up in each other's face. When you're that close to a guy and his sword hand is immobile, let go of your sword with one hand and grab the hilt of his sword. Fight over.

The axe I've trained with is basically a stick with some hard rubber jerry rigged onto it in the shape of an axe. It's not the best in the world but I can't seem to find any decent sparring axes around. There are some awesome trips, weapon traps and shield traps and disarms you can pull off with a shield. Just think of it as not only a blade but a hook as well and the rest flows from there. Watching that scene in gladiator where the guy had a sword and axe had me thinking the whole time "he could be doing so much more."
