I think its more of the sugar with the protein than the protein. Eating a bunch of steak doesn't make me fart, but if I havent been taking protein in a while, a protein shake will definetly make me fart some rancid shit (rancid enough that you have to be proud of it) until my body acclimizes.
The bacteria in your colon LOVE the sugar in the shakes, so they eat that shit up like mad and produce very high sulfur compounds. Fuck, you think regular protein shakes are bad, try drinking a weight gainer, those are the worst.
For some reason though, at least personally, after a week or so of taking protein, my body seems to get used to it and it stops. My girlfriend absolutely hates the "transitioning in" phase of me starting to take shakes again.
