He’s long retired from active competition, and he’s had a very hard time of it in recent years.
Last December a federal judge ordered him to be detained and he was returned to California, where he failed to show for sentencing for skipping out on over $34,000 in back child support.
When he appeared before the U.S. Magistrate he asked to be released on his own recognizance and pleading, he promised the judge that he would appear for sentencing in San Francisco once he is officially notified of a court date, but they denied his request because of Alexio's history of failing to keep his word, ruling that he was a flight risk.
Dennis protested loudly before the judge, saying "I do not agree to consent to any of that," as he was being led away by U.S. marshals in handcuffs.
"You're supposed to protect me over there… You know that's fraud “ he said, pointing to the assistant federal defender.
The U.S. marshals had arrested Alexio while he worked out at the Kalakaua boxing gym, and he remains in jail.
Alexio identified himself to the court as Dennis Raymond Alexio, "a living soul," but he denied he is the person named in the warrant, and He contends that the warrant was invalid, sounding totally crazy.
Earlier, in July 2004 a California grand jury indicted Alexio on two counts of bank fraud in addition to the outstanding child support charges.
He was accused of writing two bad checks to the Marin County Child Support Division to satisfy his child support obligations.
The guy is a mess, and appears now to have suffered some significant brain damage.
