If MMA offers more "realism" and "seeing which techniques are superior" as the TS put it, then Machida's style would be the ultimate self-defense. Because if he were in a fight in the real world, people wouldn't pursue him so much. They would get punched or kicked a couple of times and quit chasing him around.
I guess all counterpunchers would be that way.
With Machida, I appreciate the technical aspects of his game, and he is certainly a great fighter. But I wouldn't call him "exciting". I will always enjoy watching him fight, but he doesn't get the adrenaline pumping like more aggressive fighters do.
I would rather see Wand go balls to the wall and get knocked out 5 times to every Machida decision victory.
