I can't speak for everyone, but for me personally, it's like police, firefighters, military, ems's (or is that emt's?, I forget), correctional officers, etc. I feel that for the jobs that these guys/gals do, they don't make enough. Same for mixed martial artists- some just don't make enough. Also, it makes me mad that they're better than boxers (flame away if you wanna but boxers don't have to defend subs, clinches, kicks, etc.) and get paid way less. The bigger orgs, UFC in particular, should definitely pay more for fighters on the undercard, IMO. But if they're good enough, they'll get top dollar for their services at some point.
Also, as a side bar, I personally train because my job requires it, but don't think more than half of Sherdoggers do.
