Training at other camps
.
With the front page article on Lesnar perhaps training with Randy Couture there was a lot of disagreement on whether or not this is a good idea.
On the don't train with him side, some said Randy was never great (right) and others said because he lost there is nothing you can learn from him.
I wanted to discuss this, but not just in a Lesnar and Randy discussion.
It is completely senseless to think that you cannot learn something from another fighter/coach, even if you've beaten them in a fight or if they've never fought.
Some people are great fighters and bad coaches, others are great coaches and bad fighters. Others are in between or never tried the other.
But to think just because you beat someone means that you cannot learn anything from them is ridicoulous.
Do you think that GSP couldn't learn anything from BJ Penn, because GSP beat Penn?
Or that Hughes couldn't learn anything from GSP after the first time they fought because Hughes beat GSP?
There are many great camps out there and even if you don't make a long term change, just going and working with someone else for a small amount of time can expand your horizons and deepen your knowledge.
I'm all for one fighter going to another camp and training, even if for a small amount of time.
It is the fighter who is smart enough to realize that going to a different camp will hopefully teach him something new, and it shows a fighter who is not egotistical and feels they have nothing more to learn or that their is nothing out there that their camp doesn't already know.
Rampage learned a lot from Juanita and was very successful, after their falling out he went to Wolfslair and it obviously worked.
Wandy, a crafty veteran went to a different camp and he showed improvement also.
It's the fighter who never wants to change camps that will probably be passed up sooner then the one who is willing to seek out knowledge and new learning.
