Actually not true at all. There are alot of great one-dimensional guys in MMA. It really depends on what style you're good at.

And define "great?" Great as in great in MMA at each discipline or great as in hes great compared to the best boxers, MT fighters in the world. Because they might be great in comparison with other fighters in MMA but their boxing, MT etc does not compare to the best in the world and its not even close. So really you can say in MMA to be truly the greatest you have to be competent at everything but their likely never going to be considered great at anything more than 1 MAYBE 2 disciplines.

lastly, the majority of boxers who werent complete tomato cans all had success in MMA. So to say that the clinch is the reason why they dont succeed is completely inaccurate because many boxer have indeed succeeded and the ones who have not it certainly wasnt due to their clinch ability.

And the clinch is such a minor part of MMA, i'd say the most important aspect if you had to pick one would be wrestling ability. If you dont have good wrestling you're likely not going to go very far. Of course there are a few exceptions. There are some very good MMA guys who cant fight out of the clinch. But that certainly hasnt deterred them from succeeding.
