I played both as well. In rugby my injuries were worse in terms of quantity with a lot of stomps to the head and minor concussions, a cracked collar bone kept me sidelined the longest.
Hockey has hurt me more than any other sport. Getting smoked with my head down, a few feet away from the boards and then colliding with them messed me up worse than anything I've ever felt. I don't cringe when I think of my rugby injuries, they're simply nasty. Getting destroyed in hockey takes something out of you.
