People are morons, imagine a 12 year old little leaguer coming to practice and telling the coach he doesn't want to use the aluminum bat because thats not what he sees the MLB hitters using - "I don't want to use that one, because it is unrealistic, when I get to the pro's I'll have to use wood"
I can not tell you how many fucking moron kids come in and think that they don't have to learn triangle defense 'cause
-"I'll just slam out like 'page" Or
-"I don't wanna work on my guard sweeps, I'm gonna be more of a wrestler and G'nP kind of fighter"
-Or my all time favorite during a 16 year olds third lesson ever "man I saw a move called the gogoplata on youtube, you think you could show me that instead of the same old armbar from mount, I got that one down"
All that said, some people only want to train nogi, good for them. But a good grappler who uses a gi and then takes it off is still a good grappler. Where as a good nogi guy puts a gi on and it is like starting over.
To each his own, but if you want to be a well rounded grappler, it's best to train in a gi sometimes and no gi other times.
