It is true.
Read the link about civil asset forfeiture. They don't have to have evidence against you. They don't have to convict you of any crime at all. They take your property and they actually sue the money, not you, and the money itself has to prove that it was obtained legitemately. Average cost of defense is $10,000, so you lose even if you get your money back.
And when you are guilty of a minor crime, like the people in the stories I posted, they can use it as justification to take the rest of your property. The guy who ran a LEGAL counseling service out of his house was arrested for practicing psychiatry without a license and had all of his assets seized. So why should every single thing he owns be taken and never returned to him I ask?
There are so many thousands of these cases that they aren't hard to find. They aren't all just suspicious looking characters with trunk loads of 100 dollar bills and bullet holes in their cars and tatoos on their necks. There is a presumption of guilt if you have cash on you or in your car or in your house and if you can't prove that it was obtained legally, it gets taken, no crime need be commited by you at all.
