The other amazing thing to me is that despite the economy in the US, both hardware and software sales are higher than ever. In MARCH, the three consoles sold more than or close to what they sold in December IIRC. Crazy.

I don't think it is just the Wii, and I don't think it is all of gaming.

PC games are being created to sway casuals as well independent of Big N. The industry wants to make money and big blockbusters are becoming too expensive to make the big profits.

That being said, the hardcore fans drive the market so I don't think the new casual direction applies to all of gaming. Despite getting more expensive, the big studios will continue to create big games because they cause hype and sell systems.
