It used to happen to me when I was younger an it would scare the crap out of me. I would wake up in the middle of the night hearing footsteps or other weird noises but I couldn't move anything or say a damn word. I would struggle until I could finally move. Crazy crap.
When ever it happens nowadays, I just ignore it and fall back asleep.
