Why do MMA fans associate MMA with some sort of superhuman level of invincibility.
Marcus Davis, Chris Lytle, Alessio Sakara and Jeremy Williams all are former/current boxers who have amassed fantastic MMA records. Jeremy Williams is 5-0 and in his 2nd pro fight had a gogoplata on an opponent who has a pretty damn good wrestling background. He also submitted a fighter who has well over 40 fights in MMA.
Alessio Sakara, Marcus Davis and Chris Lytle were all MEDIOCRE boxers at best and Lytle and Davis currently find themselves ranked in the top 10-15 in the WORLD at WW. Not bad for a part-time fighter, full-time firefighter in Lytle and 34 year old Marcus Davis.
Do you honestly think that a guy as freakishly athletic as David Haye couldnt make the transition to MMA and be a top 10 LHW or HW? Sure it would take work in BJJ and wrestling but theres one difference between David Haye and your other aspiring MMA fighters. David Haye is an ATHLETE. A professional athlete who is more conditioned, more explosive than any of your amateur, low-mid tier pro fighters in MMA.
I never get the "oh hes a boxer, he'll get taken down and pounded" argument. Is it applicable to a few fighters? Sure. But lets remember what happened to wrestler Tommy Speer against Anthony Johnson. Tommy Speer couldnt do shit to the more ATHLETIC Anthony Johnson. And please dont tell me it was Anthony Johnson's limited wrestling background. It was his world-class athleticism. GSP was a one-dimensional fighter in his late teens. He started wrestling at the age of 21 and now at 27 is easily the best wrestler in MMA. You think GSP's takedown defense is due to his wrestling? I think its part of it. But I think its primarily due to his incredible athleticism, footwoork and quickness. Not to mention that the guy was dropping people on their heads when he was early in his career with that LIMITED wrestling background.
People need to wake up. This is isnt some high school wrestler who got cut from the football team. This is a world-class athlete. If guys like Forrest Griffin who at the age of 21 was training to be a firefighter can win TUF 3 years later and beat a guy like Shogun Rua in 2007 im sure David Haye can make as good if not a better transition than Forrest "friggin" Griffin. And im a big fan of Forrest. Nothing gets me more angry than these MMA elitists.

Never ceases to amaze me how dense some people are. A HW super athlete with big time punching power and world class hands... Yeah, he has no place in MMA

The money was never good enough in MMA for a lot of top athletes to consider it, now it is. Thats great news for everybody.
