I don't think Michael is a bad person. He would do ANYTHING for his son, which includes murder and delivering his comrades as hostages to the enemy. Michael was all about Walt and once he saved Walt he became tortured.
He was tortured to the point of suicide and then accepting to work for Ben if it gave him a chance to help the other survivors again.

Michael loves to tell everyone how much he wants his son -- when he doesn't have him. But notice how when he did have Walt on the island, he didn't seem to give a shit. The scene on the golf course is only one example.
