About a year ago I had my right orbital bone fractured in a fight, and the eye doctor told me that there was an increased chance of my retina detaching because of the trauma my eye had suffered. Just yesterday I got hit in the same eye (playing basketball this time, though) and had the bottom part of my field of vision give out. I went back to the doctor today and he said there was a little spot where it looked like my retina might be beginning to separate.

This scared the shit out of me for two reasons. One, a detached retina means I'm blind in my right eye. Two, even if I can get surgery to correct it, the doctor couldn't seem to stress enough that my days of fighting were over.

My question is...in a sport with so many nasty eye injuries, how do fighter's cope with this? Just keep plugging along and hope that they never go blind? Do I just have a pussy retina? What's the deal?
Damn.

All I can say is, never underestimate how well the human body can heal. Something close to that happen to Randy vs Rizzo. He lost the vision in his right eye for 6 MONTHS, but with some kind of surgery and rehab, he regained his vision back.
