Viacom wasn't going anywhere, but they were about to punt SpikeTV.

Spike had been a horrendous failure since switching from 'The Nashville Network' to 'The National Network' to 'The New TNN' to 'SpikeTV' in the span of about three years. Their original programming had flopped (anyone remember Stripperella & the Joe Schmoe Show), their only ratings draw (the WWE) was in the final year of their contract and in serious negotiations with USA, and cable providers were on the verge of dropping the channel.

Viacom was ready to cut to bait on the channel until the TUF boom hit and turned everything around.
