Man, that's a bummer. And after seeing her pictures you just posted, she's such a pretty dog. Beautiful eyes and a cute face.
Maybe it wouldn't hurt to bring her to a second vet to see what they say and what their diagnosis is. I personally wouldn't give up on her, and it sounds like you don't want to either. I'd give it more time and assess the situation a month or so down the road.
I hope she pulls thru it though. I've owned dogs in the past that came from abusive or negligent households, and you can just tell that once they're in a caring and loving environment that they're whole life changes. Sometime takes a while, but it makes a huge difference to them and you. But I hope she's ok, keep us posted.
