One of the guys I am training with comes from a boxing background. He tells me kinda what you said.
The solution (in progress) - he's been playing a lot of soccer to loosen up his kicks and increase lower body agility. In addition yoga a couple nights a week for general flexibility. (I know a surprisingly high number of boxers who do yoga) Maybe you can do the same!
But yeah, I bet you having some fun playing tennis or soccer on the side will help you out
I wouldn't think it's easier to go from kickboxing to boxing. Boxing is the American martial art, and most of the original masters who brought Asian martial arts to America, would have done boxing while in the army/navy, or college. And many of the American kickboxers in that golden age of kickboxing started out as boxers.
