UFC/Pride Final Chapter!!
What I mean by this is that all of the Pride/UFC stuff needs to end!!
I will start by saying I am/was a huge fan of both organizations and I have a great deal of respect for both UFC/Pride and all of the fighters so this is by no means a bias opinion.
It has become ridiculous how after every big fight announcement or outcome we have to hear how 1 guy won/will win becuase he was from 1 organization and 1 guy lost/will lose because he was from the other.
The Pride supporters make excuses about injuries, transitioning to the octagon, and guys landing lucky shots to win. UFC supporters make unproven claims about every fighter in Pride being juiced up and how Pride fighters are overrated.
The bottom line is that they are PROFESSIONAL FIGHTERS, they don't need to make excuses, if they were so hurt they can back out of a fight as Shogun and Liddell both have just done. If you have ever foguht, know any1 who fights, or listen to any fighter they are never 100% going into a fight. Real fighters should also be able to fight in any circumstance w/o excuses, especially since they move around to different organizations so often in MMA. I also don't believe in "lucky", the guy had to land the punch/kick or attempt the submition in the circumstane that they did in order to win so there is nothing lucky about it, most guys are so good and talented that they can capitalize on 1 mistake and take advanatge of it in the blink of an eye. I won't even get into steroid accusatios.
If you take part in the Pride UFC arguing you are not a real MMA fan. You are either living in the past and need to get over the fact that Pride is gone and stop bashing the UFC and every event that they put on. Or you are 1 of the new TUF MMA fans who probably never actually watched Pride therefore you have no respect for it.
If you truely were a fan of MMA you would be happy to have most of the top talent in the world in 1 organization (accept HWS due to some recent moves and some top LWs). Think about all of the great fights/moments over the last few months like Liddell/Wand, Sylvia/Nog, the two title unification fights, the Gonzaga/Crocop highlight KO and think about all of the great fights that can happen in the future like Liddell/Shogun, Franklin/Hendo, A Silva/W Silva, and many more. If Pride still existed we may never have had the opportunity for all of this to happen.
The last point I will make is the thing that annoys me the most. People feel the need to claim certain fighters a Pride or UFC "guy". The fact of the matter is that very few guys if any stay in 1 organization for their entire career. I find it comical when Pride fans claim that 3 "Pride guys" are current title holders in the UFC. I feel like I have to correct people on this every single day.
Let's go over some facts...
Anderson Silva signed with the UFC well before the purchase of Pride and he has more fights/wins in the UFC than in any other organization. Also in between his time fighting in Pride and the UFC he competed in Cage Rage where he was MW champ. So why do some people insist on calling Anderson Silva a Pride fighter??? I'm sure most people coudln't care less when Silva left Pride and why should they he was just an avergae fighter. But now since Anderson Silva has become the most dominant force in MMA Pride supporters want to attach themselves to him and embrace him as one of their own.
Another point that needs to be made is that Rampage and Crocop both signed big contracts with the UFC well before the purchase of Pride. Both of these guys debuted at UFC 67. Ironically, this event was headlined by UFC MW champ Anderson Silva (who was alrady out of Pride for 3 years) vs. Travis Lutter. If you understand this than you would realize why i find it so funny when people say that 3 current UFC titles are held by Pride Fighters. Also even though he was popular, Rampage was never the "face of Pride" like Wandi/Fedor/Crocop/Nog/Shogun, so just because he is Champ now and on top of the game don't associate yourself with him and his success. Nog is the only current UFC champ who was still under contract with Pride when it was purchased by Zuffa.
By the same logic as Anderson Silva being a Pride fighter that would mean that guys like Wanderlei Silva, Dan Henderson, Josh Barnett, Pedro Rizzo, Kevin Randleman, Don Frye, and Mark Coleman are all UFC fighters because they appeared in the UFC first. People need to stop with all of that crap, for every top contender there are probably 5 guys that were just average who made the move from 1 organization to the other so if you want credit for the contenders then take credit for the other guys as well.
I have said this before and I will say it again, the behavior of claiming top fighters to your choice organization reminds me of "the racial draft" from Chappelle's show. On behalf of the UFC we claim Dan Henderson who simaltaneously held titles in two different weight classes in Pride. On behald of Pride we claim the rights to Anderson Silva, the top pound for pound fighter in the world. Seriously, think about it and how ridiculous it sounds.
In closing if you are 1 of the people still living in the past and you feel the need to bash the UFC simply don't watch it. You can pledge you allegiance to either Dream or Elite XC, the UFC won't miss you.
I'm sure I will inevitably be called "a troll" but that is by no means my purpose, I have better things to do than trying to create a rise from a bunch of people I don't know over the computer. Also please refrain from childish name calling and insults, you people give Sherdog a bad name and need to grow up.
