If you do the guard right neck flexibility should not be an issue. You simply have to do it right. Doing the backward roll over drills - or the sideways Galvao drills previously mentioned will get you used to tucking your head by instinct and not really having a problem.
My lower back feels strained some times because i play a ton of guard, and inverted guard especially. My neck has never bothered me unless i got neck cranked.
