Spike TV broadcast it again last night. That was the first time I saw it.

Two observations:

1) Penn doesn't usually use elbows, but Joe kept peppering/pestering him incessantly with punches from the bottom. BJ got frustrated and slashed him. (Memo to fighters: Don't annoy Penn.)

2) Joe dealt with the massive hemorraging well until he was on the bottom in the second round and it got into his eyes. If you watch closely you can see him shake his head to get it out of his eyes. He couldn't see and he panicked. Which you can understand if a nasty striker like Penn is on top of you (and you can't see!). But that blood+panic resulted in him giving up his back and the easy win for Penn.

Jeremy Horn told the ref in his fight against Chuck Liddell that he couldn't see. The ref stopped it. Maybe the ref should have been faster in the Penn fight to time out the fight to clear the blood from Joe's eyes--like he did in the first round. Joe lost this fight b/c the ref f'd up. Although Penn may still have won it if there wasn't a blood/sight issue.
