Along time ago there was an average mustached man by the name of Freddy Frye. During the second world war with the Nazi German army walking through Europe the United States began to fear that Hitler would set his eyes on North America after conquer Europe.

So in a top secret experiment to create a super solider, the US Government looked for someone to volunteer, lucky they found Freddy Frye. The super solider experiment was classified as The Patriot Program, the objective was to take one man and from that man divide him into two different entities.

The Patriot Program succeed in splitting Freddy Frye into two distinctly different people. One was a being of pure bravado, strength and courage, a peak human. He is the one we now refer to as Don Frye. The other... well, he became Freddy Mercury (you make the connection).

Soon after hearing about Don Frye, Hitler shoot himself in the head. The Japanese on the other hand weren't so lucky, Truman unleashed him on Japan twice causing them to surrender.

Don Frye's WWII experience can be read about in the history magazines called Captain America.
