i feel like i am being a little misunderstood in the point i am trying to get across... but then again maybe i am not, maybe i am going about things the wrong way... i see training like this

you learn a move

you practice the move

you roll

when you roll you experiment, you try this and that and find what works for you...you find out what you have learned and you find out how to take advantage of your opponents weakness's and how to defend your own...

that being said, being of a shorter stockier build i have advantages and disadvantages against a given opponent and i tailor my strategy accordingly... another thick guy is not going to be too phased by something like a bearhug but a thin guy is... it may not be a technical move, but if in the process of rolling you find that it works, why not utilize it. like i said, i feel its all about finding what works for you and practicing to hone your skills.
