I disagree to an extent. I think ZMA isn't a bad one to be taking regardless. What's wrong with getting more zinc, magnesium and B vitamins, especially if he's an athlete? Also, I wouldn't think there's anything wrong with a 17 y/o taking fish oil or a good multi-vitamin either.

I do agree in the sense that he doesn't need a giant mixing bowl full of supps that he takes on a daily basis, but supplementing certain things are not all that bad are they?
