Car Audiophile gear

This is an oxymoron. A car has a bazillion surfaces, including glass, for audio to reflect off of. It's also typically a noisy environment with road noise and other traffic polluting the passenger compartment. That being said, you know those incredibly expensive signal cables that the salesman tries to get you to buy when you purchase a fancy system? Yeah, they don't do a thing for improving the output since there are so many other factors that influence the sound. Halfway decent signal cables will do the job just fine.

Also, be wary of going to major chains for getting merchandise installed. It's all too frequent that the people working on your car are completely incompetent and will forget to reassemble all the parts in your car properly. They wind up with extra parts and fasteners that get tossed out. It's a very good idea to check out your electrical system before you leave the place also. It's not too uncommon that some new or stupid installer probes the wrong wire, or accidentally sinks a screw into a computer brain, and suddenly the vehicle's brake lights don't work, AC doesn't work, or even worse.

Last but not least, keep an eye out for fluid and the smell of gas, especially if an installer was in your trunk. Gas tanks are placed in some strange spots and are sometimes shaped awkwardly. Even the best installer will sometimes accidentally fasten a subwoofer with screws and penetrate a gas tank now and then.
