QFT, to a degree. The rest is societal. You aspire for glory in the things that your part of society reveres. Take that group of individuals that is driven toward success and they will succeed, no matter what. And as racist as it sounds, much of "black culture" is geared more toward athletics and entertainment than toward professional careers. Not that they can't do it just as well as anyone else (and a lot definitely do), but there's less glory in it. So you get these driven individuals who, per capita, strive for athletic greatness and don't subscribe to the whole "well, I gave it a run. Now I'll go with my backup plan cause it got hard" theory that a lot of other cultures in the U.S. do.
