Wow. Really interesting stuff.
This passage from the NY Magazine article hits hard: "North Americans have the most advanced shoes in the world, yet 90 percent of us still develop problems? We’ve long assumed this means we need better shoes. Maybe it means we don’t need shoes at all."
I recently came to discover that lifting in Chuck Taylors or old Tevas is better than wearing jacked-up running shoes that won't let you keep your heels down. Now I definitely wanna try barefoot running and am going shopping for the Vibram 5-fingers!
I wonder, does anybody have any idea how close Tevas are to barefoot? Of all my shoes, these seem like the closest in terms of walking mechanics. There's still a substantial sole, though, that doesn't allow me to feel the textures of the ground.
