The people that work at the real running shops will just want to watch you run a few feet to see what your gait is like and to see if you run on the inside of your foot or the outside of your foot. Then they'll just recommend a pair of Asics or New Balance that are made for runners that run that way. It's not like they custom build the shoe or anything. Really if you are going to be running alot it's the best thing to do. At least see what shoe they recommend and if you want, shop around to see if you can get it cheaper.
