Much Credit to DREAM
I just think the Dream fans should really give a lot of credit to FEG and Dream with the announcements made earlier today. They could have taken the easy way out and 1) Made the re-match in the 2nd round or 2) DQ'ed JZ and advanced Aoki
Instead, we get the re-match as a 1st round matchup on the next Dream card. Additionally, Uno has been slotted into the last spot, which is good to see. I would have preferred Shaolin and really would have preferred Melendez, but Uno is a good choice too.
And this brings me to my last point....this situation is one of the things I love about Japanese MMA. We're going to potentially get to see a world class fighter fight twice in the matter of two weeks (as long as there are no serious injuries...knock on wood). You never see that here in America.
Now, I understand athletic commissions have a lot to do with that. I respect what organizations like NSAC and CSAC do, but sometimes they might be a bit overprotective. I mean, look at CC when he was in Pride in 2004. Fought something like 7-8 times. If that were America, no way would he have been cleared to fight two weeks after Randleman KO'd him.
In addition to that, I think the UFC is really depriving the fans. I love the UFC and they are what got me into MMA. Right now though, I hate the way they do business and run their company. Top tier fighters are fighting 2-3 times a year MAX. No way Liddell should have sat from December till June. Tito hasn't fought since July. When is Nog fighting again? I understand they run a business and are looking out for themselves, but how often do we hear fighters talk about how much more often they want to fight. Sylvia just recently said he looks forward to fighting more now that he has left the UFC.
Anyways, credit to Dream for making a fantastic decision and lets just say I love Japanese MMA because we get to see great fighters fight much more often.
