Fine, I'll spell it out for you:
The math test is essentially a check for the soundness and efficiency of your thinking process. If you can't solve the simple math problems on this test in a controlled environment, how in the world are you going to handle the complex situations you'll face on the streets (under an even shorter time limit, no less)? The test isn't that hard; excuse machines like you just don't like admitting that they're wrong.
