I don't know about the finishing hold thing debate. No matter who started kicking out of it, the natural evolution of the sport leads to that. Bearhug, sleeper, airplane spin, atomic knee drop,. clothesline, etc.... All were feared finishing moves at one point. Harley Race won the NWA title with a vertical suplex in 1973. A big angle early in Ted Dibiase's career in the WWWF was that in the coming weeks he was going to introduce a feared move that he was perfecting in training. The move ? The abdominal stretch. I am not saying I like it but if nobody started kicking out of finishers, would the sunset flip still be a winning pinfall move?
